In celebrating the Respect for the Aged Day next week, inilabas ng Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare ang population ng mga nasa 100 years old above na senior citizen sa ngayon, at ito ay umabot na sa 80,450 katao.
Compare last year, tumaas ito ng 9,176 katao, at patuloy na tumataas ito every year for 50 consecutive years now. Ang bilang naman ng mga magiging 100 years old this year ay aabot sa 41,802 katao ayon din sa data nila.
Ang pinakamatanda sa ngayon ay isang babae na nasa 117 years old at nakatira sa Fukuoka prefecture.
